System Modeler requires access to a C++ compiler to run simulations. On Windows, System Modeler supports the C++ compilers bundled with Microsoft Visual Studio editions 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022 (recommended).

If a C++ Compiler Is Already Installed

  1. Start System Modeler. System Modeler will automatically detect the C++ compiler and set it as the default compiler.
  2. Verify that the compiler setup was successful.

In case of error messages, please try setting up the compiler manually.

If a C++ Compiler Is Not Yet Installed

  1. Start System Modeler. A dialog prompting you to download one of the supported compilers appears:
  2. Select Check Online. The Install Compiler screen appears.
  3. We recommend selecting Visual C++ Build Tools 2022. Click OK to confirm your selection. The selected version of Visual Studio will begin to download.
  4. Follow the prompts to install the selected tools.
  5. Once the Visual Studio installation is complete, restart System Modeler. System Modeler will automatically detect the C++ compiler and set it as the default compiler.
  6. Verify that the compiler setup was successful.

In case of error messages, please try setting up the compiler manually.

Alternatively, free editions of Visual Studio can be manually downloaded and installed from the following links:
